Jessica Spain on Outward Bound course in 2021 funded by our Club
Each year, the JR McKenzie Youth Education Fund sponsors young people to attend a 21 day Outward Bound Course.
The J R McKenzie Youth Education Fund receives funding from the J R McKenzie Trust, with the Youth Education Fund administered by Rotary regionally.
There are 2 scholarship's of $4,025 to go towards the cost of attending a Mind Body and Soul course at Outward Bound - 29th June to 19th July 2026.
Outward Bound courses empower people to unlock their full potential through life-changing journeys in the outdoors. Nestled in the breathtaking Marlborough Sounds with the mountains, bush, and waterways as the classroom, courses are designed to challenge people to step beyond their comfort zones, building resilience, self-awareness, and deeper connections with themselves and the world around them.
The total cost for the 21 day course is $6,894. Travel costs to / from Picton are not included in the course cost.
As a Club of the former 9980 Rotary District we are eligible to put forward a nomination / application for a young school aged person (aged 16-18) to attend.
Applications close 15th May - so if you know of someone who would benefit greatly from attending, who otherwise would not normally get the opportunity to attend - please contact President Michael or our Youth Director (Trish Lindsay) to discuss.
Jessica Spain, pictured above, was funded by our Club to attend an Outward Bound Course in January 2021.
A thank you card from Jessica was hand delivered to the August 17, 2021 club meeting, with these words: “...I got so much out of it and improved myself mentally and physically.” “I am a better version of myself from it.”
