For generations, Rotary and its global partners have worked tirelessly to protect children from polio and move the world closer to a polio-free future.

Poliomyelitis, commonly known as polio, is a paralyzing and potentially fatal disease that still threatens children in some parts of the world. The virus attacks the nervous system and can cause total paralysis within hours. Although people of any age can contract polio, it mainly affects children under five. There is no cure, but vaccination can prevent it.

Observed on 24 October, World Polio Day is an opportunity to recognise the remarkable progress made in the global effort to end the disease—and to renew our commitment to finishing the job.

While our club is not holding a specific World Polio Day event or fundraiser this year, we can still make a difference. By raising awareness, keeping the conversation going, and reminding our communities why #EndPolio matters.

Continued funding is essential for immunisation and surveillance efforts. Every donation helps provide vaccines, transportation, and vital materials needed to protect children and stop the spread of polio. Through the Gates Foundation’s 2-to-1 match, each contribution to Rotary’s PolioPlus Fund is tripled.
