Join us to Unite for Good for the environment.
President Michael has put out a further call out for volunteers to ‘unite for good’ to assist ‘hands on' with bait changing and maintenance work on the tracks on 24th August to support 'hands on' from 10am til 2pm to support Omaui Landcare Charitable Trust (OLCT).
Omaui Landcare Charitable Trust is an environmental group eradicating pests in the Omaui Reserves so native wildlife can flourish, the Trust needs support for their volunteer operation.
OLCT was formed in 2013 by a group of Omaui residents concerned with the declining health of the native bush and wildlife in the area.
The Trust maintains a network of automatic gas operated rat & stoat traps that are toxin free but require re-baiting and re-gassing 6 monthly, which is a large and expensive job.
Maintenance of access lines to the trap network is constant as the bush grows quickly.
John Collins, Chair of the Omaui Landcare Charitable Trust, spoke to our Club in June and has also spoken to Invercargill East Club and President Michael has reached out to invite East to work with us on the Work Day.
OLCT was a winner and finalist in recent Environment Southland Community Awards for their work in "bringing birdsong back to the picturesque coastal location of Omaui."
The work day is planned to conclude with a BBQ and beverage.
Participants need strong footwear, coat, water bottle, snacks and a small back pack plus any personal medications required.
The meeting point on the day is 27 Whalers Crescent - Omaui. Please
