Letter:
My latest pet subject is the children’s playground in Queens Park.
In my opinion, we have the greatest parks and reserves of any city in New Zealand, and I even wondered about world comparisons when I walked through Central Park in New York for the first time.
Let’s stop complaining about the Chinese Garden that we are probably going to get as a more conservative version anyhow, but which could also be better with the inclusion of a barbecue.
Let’s instead talk about the main children’s playground in Queens Park.
While we have lots of playgrounds in numerous parks around the city, why not make Queens Park, with the most prominent one of all, the best in New Zealand?
Even with the new equipment added in recent years, we are falling behind the rest of New Zealand in new challenging and fun playground equipment.
Some of the equipment has been there since I was a teenager and that wasn’t yesterday.
Parks and reserves have been rumoured to build up reasonable monetary reserves over the last few years, and that’s ratepayer’s money.
How about we put some of that to good use and upgrade our playground with some fantastic new equipment, barbecues, etc for great family times?
For those of you who have not been to the playground recently, let me paint a picture.
At any time of the day, children, parents, and grandparents are all enjoying the atmosphere and environment. It is undoubtedly one of the most well-supported areas in Queens Park.
But, it could be so much better – and even a contender for being the best in the country.
Why can’t we get together as Rotary and encourage it to happen?
