It was great to see members and friends who were able to attend last Tuesday's meeting. A special thanks to Peter Dunn and the members who contributed and supported on the day for our "in person" memorial for Warren Warburton.

Well done to the social committee on the Fireside Forums that were held last week. It was great to have these back in our programme with a new day time option available.

Thank you to hosts Ross Wensley, Rose and Tom Shields and Alice Pottinger. Some photos from the forums are included in this bulletin, we look forward to hearing reports from the three forums at this week’s meeting.

This week's meeting is an extra one with a change to Level 1 at the Kelvin Hotel (Level 6 is getting new carpet), and this week we are embracing technology and our guest speaker Chris Claridge will join our meeting online as Covid-19 continues to impact on travel.

Membership growth conversations have progressed to agenda items at club forums, and last week as a fireside forum topic. Now we need to change conversation into action.

Rotary International president Shektar Mehta is challenging all Rotary clubs with "Each one Bring one". The idea is that each member brings someone along to introduce them to Rotary.

There are different ways for each of us to do this. If you don’t have someone to bring, or to nominate, do you know of someone in our community that would be a good Rotarian? Remember, you don’t have to be the one bringing them or asking them – connecting us to them is all that is needed.

If you have a new member suggestion – please let me or one of the directors know.  As indicated the focus of the October 12 meeting will be on membership.

See you later - mā te wā

Your new look bulletin
For a couple of weeks now the club has been experimenting with a new version of the weekly bulletin.

It has a digital focus and the reason for that is to allow a seamless transition between the bulletin and the club's website.

We have put together this easy guide so you can find your way around the new bulletin.  Please click on the "Read more" message to get the full guide.

Tribute to our Warren

A beautiful tribute was held at the club meeting on September 21, 2021, to allow members to pay their respects to long serving member Warren Warburton (1921-2021).

Led by President Lisa the tribute covered his love of Rotary, his penchant for routine and ensuring all Presidents were up to scratch. Members also shared personal stories about Warren, from his love of whisky, recounting how time is precious to all of us, his wars years and the wonderful wit he had and the special way he had to make people feel welcomed.

Warren had a special seat at Rotary, and for the tribute his seat was reserved by a display of poppies at the table to honour him.

A prayer was held by Peter Dunn to close the tribute.

One of the fitting statements in the tribute was the following quote:

To be born a gentleman is an accident; to die a gentleman is an achievement.

If you missed the story about how Warren joined Rotary we have included it again for members.

3 Waters Reform
In July 2020, the Government launched the Three Waters Reform Programme – a three-year programme to reform local government three waters service delivery arrangements.

Our guest speaker on October 5, 2021, Nobby Clark, will give his personal opinion on the reform.

Ahead of that meeting we have pulled together a variety of websites, pdfs, news stories and council agendas that discuss the reform.
