From the Editor:
Hi everyone
Today is day 30 in lockdown - like many of you, I never imagined I would ever experience such an event. I have not driven anywhere, been anywhere except on my bike in 30 days.
This week President Ria issued an update on Club Meetings - so from here we look forward to moving back to our previous format but in a new way where safety, social distance and saving lives stays the top priority.
Each bulletin since lockdown has had a mention of Zoom and this one is no different as it continues to escalate to being a big part our new 'normal.
In this bulletin
- More Members share what they have been up to in Lockdown
- Anzac Day in lockdown
- Our first guest speaker 'via Zoom'
If you would like to contribute an article, a photo or something else that is in the spirit of Rotary, that our Club members might enjoy, please email to me: lmfkjs@xtra.co.nz.

Anzac Day - Lest we forget
Image from https://www.standatdawn.com/home
This year, for the first time in history, Anzac Day Services across New Zealand have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
105 years have passed, and this year Anzac Day will be different but we all have the opportunity to take some time, in our own way to remember and honour our veterans within our 'Bubbles'.
There have been some awesome tributes seen online, around our streets and encouraged through the home schooling, arts & crafts and more.
The RSA and New Zealand Defence Force are inviting New Zealander's to join them to remember those who given their lives for our country at:
6:00 am on Saturday 25 April.
Stand at your letterbox, at the front door, in your lounge rooms, balconies, in your driveway with other New Zealanders and take a moment to remember.
The morning service includes:
The Last Post
Ode of Remembrance in Te Reo & English
National Anthems
Address by Hon. Ron Mark, Minister of Defence / Minister for Veterans
Options to hear it live include Radio and Online:
Radio Broadcasts:
Invercargill |
- National AM 720
- National FM 101.2
- Concert 90.0
- AM Network (Parliament) 1314
- NewstalkZB Southland 864 AM
|
TVNZ is streaming a special Anzac Day programme on April 25 at 11am on TVNZ 1, or you can watch on TVNZ OnDemand later on.
A local Southland ANZAC Tribute page has been set up on Facebook with great local content: https://www.facebook.com/SouthlandANZACTributes

2020 Book Sale 'Cancelled':
As advised in President Ria's update (23nd April) the Book Sale for 2020 has been cancelled. Book Sale convenor Richard Russell has confirmed that the majority of the 2020 event preparations can be carried over to 2021. The Book Sale Committee will put the extra time to good use to review and refresh the event, that is recognised as a major fundraising event for our Community.
