Melissa Vining and her husband Blair used his last months to rally New Zealanders and petition the Government to launch a Cancer Control Agency to ensure all Kiwis received the same level of care.
The Vining's were on a mission with the cancer agency the start.
Blair, who had bowel cancer died a year ago, and Melissa has continued to push ahead with their other idea to launch a Charity Hospital in Southland.
The Southland Charity Hospital Trust has raised $1.76 million and the Invercargill Licensing Trust has donated the former Clifton Club Inn to be used as the hospital.
