Further to the Club buying 3 bricks in July 2020 - Melissa Vining was invited as guest speaker for the 1st December meeting. Melissa shared the journey from tragedy into a battle for better cancer care for our community through the establishment of The Southland Charity Hospital.
Initially the hospital will provide colonoscopies to patients from the Southern DHB Zone, expanding services provided over time. The Southland Charity Hospital is modelled on the successful Canterbury Charity Hospital and will provide free services to those in the southern half of New Zealand who are unable to access care through the public or private health systems.
Southland Charity Hospital Board:

Chris Menzies
Neil McAra
Melissa Vining

Roger Wandless
Advisor to the Board: Dr Phil Bagshaw
The Southland Charity Hospital will not receive any Government funding, relying on donations, grants, and the generosity of the wider community keen to help southerners in need.
Melissa advised several areas that we as Rotarians could work together, to make a difference to the health and wellbeing for our community.
The Club will be looking for member support for proposed Southland Charity Hospital service project(s) in 2021.
