Club youth director Kieran Middleton and club member Kieran O’Neill who nominated Menzie College Year 12 student Lisa Yorke, 17, to take part in the 33rd annual Rotary National Science and Technology forum to be held in January 2022.

Yorke, from Wyndham, was nominated and then took part in a selection process at District level.

The forum is held in Auckland during two weeks and students attend lectures hosted by the University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and Massey University.

Students gain insight into the broad range of science and technology courses available for study and visit science or technology organisations to explore future career opportunities.

Interwoven among this full-on schedule there is time set aside for other activities, such as exploring Auckland and a formal dinner with inspiring guest speakers.

The total cost for the forum is $1995.  Our club has supported Lisa with  $997.50 with Menzies College contributing $500. That remaining balance Lisa will fundraise.

Two of the selected applicants who attend the forum then have an opportunity to apply for the a place to attend the London International Youth Science Forum held in July each year or receive a scholarship.

Fingers crossed Lisa is successful for a further opportunity.

Lisa has been invited to talk to our club in February 2022 to share her experience at the forum
