Omaui Open Day
Feb 22, 2025 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
YMCA are hosting an Open Day at Omaui Camp for the Public to celebrate the completion of the track and pond project(s).

This was our major project for our 100th year to support the YMCA to create a new outdoor environmental education area.

The project spanned across 5  Working Bees, that involved laying of track matting, an estimated 75 tonne of gravel to complete 350 metres of walking tracks with new walkways to cross natural waterways amongst  several; hundred new plantings.

The outdoor education area features a pond that existed in the 1990s that fills naturally from springs in the Omaui hills through existing watercourses on the camp site that has been reinstated by the YMCA.

This project invovled a number of community partners, including us collaborating with MenzShed to  building the walkways across the existing water courses leading to the pond.

If you would like to see the project, check out Camp Omaui that our Club has had a long invovlement with - come on down.  Everyone is welcomed.

We are looking to offer further support to YMCA on the Open day by provision of a sausage sizzle so if you are available and can assist with the BBQ - please contact Lisa-Maree on 027 2304 611.

Apr 15, 2025

Greetings! I am the new manager at Citizens Advice Bureau Invercargill, having been in the position for one year. Previously I spent most of my working life in education. I was brought up on a farm near Te Anau and have lived most of my life in Southland. I look forward to sharing with you the services our wonderful volunteers provide for the Southland community.
